Collaboration
IFG has a long tradition of both regional, national, and international collaborations. IFG has a close collaboration with Region Jönköping County, including through Geriatrikum where staff from the department are represented in the steering group. Geriatrikum is a collaboration between Region Jönköping County, the county's 13 municipalities, and the School of Health Sciences to strengthen geriatric research, competence, and development within the county, regardless of the care provider or care process. Furthermore, Municipal Development, which works on behalf of the municipalities in Region Jönköping County, is also an important collaboration partner.
IFG represents Jönköping University (JU) in the national consortia Swedish Twin Registry (STR), National E-Infrastructure for Aging Research in Sweden (NEAR), and Interplay of Genes and Environment Across Multiple Studies (IGEMS). Furthermore, JU's partner representative for the National Graduate School on Aging and Health (SWEAH) is located at IFG.
The collaboration with Penn State University in the USA began in the 1980s. Research collaborations were applied in several areas. The collaboration expanded to include education as well. The course 'Aging in a Welfare State,' which continues to this day, is an example of this long-term collaboration. This course is now continuously offered to students at Utah State University.
In recent years, more international collaborations have developed, including with Indiana University Southeast, University of Southern California – Riverside in the USA, and Tomsk Polytechnic University in Russia (currently paused). These collaborations primarily focus on research.
In 2001, under the leadership of Stig Berg, a collaboration with Da Nang University of Medical Technology and Pharmacy, Vietnam, was initiated. This collaboration has since grown to include the entire School of Health Sciences. To honor the memory of Stig Berg, who passed away in 2009, a memorial fund, 'Stipend Fund in Memory of Stig Berg,' was established.
