Research

In his research Charlie Karlsson has focused on infrastructure economics, urban economics, the economics of technological change, regional economics, spatial industrial dynamics, entrepreneurship and small business economics, and the economics of R&D and higher education. He has published articles in the Papers of the Regional Science Association, Entrepreneurship and Regional Development, Regional Studies, Environment and Planning A, Growth and Change, The Annals of Regional Science, and Small Business Economics, contributed with chapters in a large number of edited books, and served as editor for several books published by Springer-Verlag, Edward Elgar, Routledge and Cambridge University Press, and for special issues of international scientific journals.

Biography

Charlie Karlsson is Professor of the Economics of Technological Change at JIBS, Guest Professor of Economics at University West, Trollhättan, Professor of Industrial Organization at Blekinge Technical University, Ronneby and Associate Professor (“docent") in Regional Planning at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. At JIBS he is director of INA (the Institute of Industrial Research), CISEG (Centre for Innovation Systems, Entrepreneurship and Growth) and JIBS/CESIS (Centre of Excellence for Science and Innovation Studies). He holds a BSc and an MSc in Economics from the University of Gothenburg and a PhD in Economics from Umeå University.

Teaching

Professor Charlie Karlsson teaches research method for bachelor and master students in economics and supervises bachelor, master and PhD theses.
