The courses do not provide credits.

Courses

Swedish Language for staff – Swelang A1

The A1 course is for beginners in the Swedish language. It is a course where we cover the basics of Swedish: grammar, vocabulary, and simple communication. Participants will learn grammar and a vocabulary with useful phrases so that they can use Swedish even outside the classroom. Communication and interaction are the focus, both in writing and orally. We use the textbook 'Rivstart A1+A2' and work with the first half of the book, which covers everyday themes. The instruction is conducted in English.

Swedish Language for staff – Swelang A2

The A2 course is a continuation of the A1 course in the Swedish language. Participants have learned the basics of the language regarding grammar and some vocabulary. In this course, participants will learn more advanced and specialized grammar. Regarding vocabulary, the focus in this course is also on useful phrases so that they can use Swedish outside the classroom. Communication and interaction take an even greater role, and the course is mostly focused on oral communication. We use the textbook 'Rivstart A1+A2' and work with the second half of the book, which covers everyday themes. The instruction is conducted in both English and Swedish.

Swedish Language for staff - Swelang B1/B2, part 1 and 2

The B1/B2 courses are conducted in Swedish, although English can be used to explain individual words. It covers level B1 and the first part of B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The course is based on oral interaction, and the content is more focused on professional life and society than before, but we also draw from more everyday subject areas. In the course, we use 'Rivstart B1+B2' as a foundation but also incorporate other materials such as newspaper texts, TV programs, advertisements, and music. During the course, we work on creating simple presentations related to the subject areas or research fields that participants are involved in.

Swedish Language for staff - Swelang B2/C1, part 1 and 2

The B2/C1 courses are conducted in Swedish, although English can be used to explain individual words. The courses cover the later level of B2 and the entire C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). In the course, writing is emphasized more than before, allowing for exploration of both formal and everyday language. We use 'Rivstart B2+C1' as a basis, along with literary texts by Swedish authors, dialogues, newspaper articles, and various types of professional texts. Additionally, we incorporate TV programs, music, and advertisements related to different subject areas. The subject areas are generally more complex than in previous courses, which is reflected in both oral and written assignments.

Educational Format

2 x 45 minutes, twice a week. So far, it has been held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM, totalling 18 sessions. The course is planned for in-person meetings.

The courses are conducted at the School of Education and Communication, Jönköping University.

Typically two courses are offered per semester starting at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters respectively.

Which two courses are held depends, among other things, on the number of participants and prioritization on the part of the clients.

More often, however, courses A1 and B1 start in the fall and A2 and B2/C1 courses start in the spring.

Tuition fee

The course fee is paid by the employer.

Apply for the Swelang A1 HT24 and the Swelang B1 HT24 courses by June 3rd the latest!

Tentative starting date for Swelang A1HT24 and Swelang B1 HT24 courses is 17 September 2024.

Approval by employer/immediate manager

Staff working at Jönköping University need to confirm in the application web form that they have secured the support from your employer/immediate manager in order to complete the application.

Staff working at a company/organisation need to include in their application a certificate signed by their employer/immediate manager. The certificate shall be uploaded digitally onto the application web form at the time of registering. A complete application comprises both the submitted application and the certificate.
