Sammanfattning (in english):
This research project examines the international news coverage of women’s protests spurred by Latin American feminists and held in various parts of the world on International Women's Day (8 March) in 2017 and 2018. Based on footage from the flagship news programs of eight global newsrooms -BBC, CNN, Deutsche Welle, Euronews, France24, Al Jazeera, Russia Today and China Central Television- and additional internet data, I analyze how protests were represented in order to understand whether coverage promotes or hinders greater understanding of, and solidarity with, the claims raised by women's movements. The project is the first component of a larger study that will map and analyse the local-global communicative ecology in which the Argentinean feminist women's movement #NiUnaMenos operates in order to build a transnational network. The movement went public in 2015 to call for governmental attention to the problem of violence against women at the national level, and since then has been increasingly active in the regional and international arena.
