Titel:
Revealing What Counts: Values, Futures and Knowledge Infrastructures for AI Curriculum Development

Sammanfattning:
As educational institutions across sectors face the challenge of developing AI curricula for teacher education, the data infrastructures that inform their decisions remain largely unexamined. These infrastructures, built around retrospective metrics, employability-oriented categories and disciplinary silos, define what stakeholders can see and act on.

This PhD project investigates how the values, categories and temporal orientations embedded in educational data infrastructures enable and constrain cross-sector AI curriculum development, and explores what design alternatives can emerge through critical examination and speculative co-design.

The project comprises three studies:

  • Study 1 critically analyzes an existing Swedish educational data infrastructure to surface the values and classificatory logics it encodes and what it renders invisible for interdisciplinary curriculum development.
  • Study 2 maps the data practices, values and temporal orientations that guide stakeholders across schools, higher education institutions, industries and governmental agenicies when making AI curriculum decisions, to identify relational and epistemic gaps across sectors.
  • Study 3 brings these findings into a series of co-design workshops where diverse stakeholders collaboratively prototype an explorative knowledge infrastructure for AI curriculum development.

The project produces dual outcomes: a conceptual prototype that functions as a research artifact for analyzing how stakeholders negotiate values and envision alternative infrastructures, and a requirements specification that can inform the development of future-oriented, cross-sector decision-support tools. Theoretically, the project contributes to emerging scholarship on knowledge infrastructures, value sensitive design, and the role of explorative (as opposed to purely classificatory) data environments in educational governance.

Contribution of the project: the expected outcomes aim at developing sustainable interdisciplinary and cross-organizational community for developing AI curriculum and  supporting decision-making practices and professional agency of educators across levels and institutions.
