Defibrillators on Campus – Restart A Heart Day

How well prepared are you to take action if you see someone having a cardiac arrest or in case of any kind of emergency situation? There are a few easy things you can do to get yourself ready to act and possibly save a life.

16 October is international “Restart A Heart Day”, an event created to increase public knowledge of CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation). Anna Abelsson, researcher at School of Health and Welfare, Jönköping University is on a mission to inspire the public to learn how to react in life threatening situations.

Defibrillators on Campus

These devices do save lives, so make sure you know where to find them and how to use them. On Campus, you find them in the entrances of the School of Health and Welfare, the School of Education and Communication, the School of Engineering, Jönköping International Business School, Campus Arena, University Library, Nordic Wellness, the caretaker’s office and House K.

Defibrillators off Campus

There is an app called “Rädda Hjärtat”, which will tell you where the closest defibrillator is located. This app is free of charge. You can also find updated information about defibrillators at https://www.hlr.nu/sveriges-hjartstartarregister/ (currantly only in Swedish)

Learn CPR/ refresh your skills

Preferably take a course where you can practice your skills, however there is a lot of excellent information to find online. Have a look at https://www.hlr.nu/utbildningsfilmer/ (currantly only in Swedish) . Everyone can do it!

Know how to call the emergency services – download the app “SOS Alarm 112”

In case of emergencies on Campus, immediately call SOS Alarm by dialing 112 and follow their instructions. In the normal procedure, the emergency services will arrive at the entrance of the school where the person in need is situated, or another location you have agreed upon. Make sure someone is there to meet them.

You can also make an emergency call by using the app SOS Alarm 112. GPS coordinates will then be sent automatically which is helpful if you don’t know the address
