Jönköping Academy was founded in 2009 as a joint initiative of Jönköping University, Region Jönköping County, and the county’s municipalities. The academy was established at the School of Health and Welfare with a shared ambition to strengthen the development of health, healthcare, and social care through research, education, and close collaboration with the field. The aim was to build an academic environment for quality improvement, where knowledge is developed in collaboration with patients, their loved ones, healthcare professionals, and healthcare organizations, with the goal of benefiting those for whom healthcare and social care are intended.

Within the framework of Jönköping Academy, both the master’s program in Quality Improvement and Leadership in Health and Welfare and an associated research environment were developed. The program is currently run by the Department of Quality Improvement and Leadership at the School of Health and Welfare, and the research environment Jönköping Academy is now part of Futurum - Region Jönköping County’s research and development organization.

Jönköping Academy continues to work in close collaboration with universities, colleges, and other stakeholders at the regional, national, and international levels. The original vision lives on: to contribute to better health and continuously improved health care and social services through research, learning, and collaboration.
