Engineering products are becoming more complex with greater demands on performance, energy efficiency, environmental impact and costs. To be able to optimise design of engineering components it is essential to understand the influence of process parameters on the materials’ structures and their resulting properties.

 
During the first year, this programme gives a general understanding of the theories behind materials, their
manufacturing processes and their role in the entire product development process. In the second year, the programme provides a unique opportunity for students to choose between two tracks based on their own career interest: component realisation or foundry technology.

Through the courses it is possible to collaborate with partner companies, which facilitates the connection between theory and current professional practice. The courses offer the students opportunities to work with problems/challenges from professional practice related to current topics on the courses. The mixture of professionals and students from the bachelor level enables both networking and a connection between theory and practice throughout the programme.

The programme qualifies you for services in product development, the purchasing and quality departments at the foundries and end users of cast components, and it allows for a research career at institutions and/or universities.

Urval: Grupp 1: Examen om minst 180 hp. Rangordning sker efter betyg. Grupp 2: 150-179 hp. Rangordning sker efter antal avklarade poäng.
Behörighet: Examen om 180 hp med lägst 90 hp i huvudområdet Material och tillverkning, Maskinteknik, Kemiteknik eller Teknisk fysik eller motsvarande. För examen inom Kemiteknik och Teknisk fysik krävs relevanta kurser inom Materialteknik, Tillverkningsteknik, Termodynamik och Hållfasthetslära. För Kemiteknik krävs även relevanta kurser inom fysik. Dessutom krävs 15 högskolepoäng i Matematik samt kunskaper i Engelska 6/Engelska B eller motsvarande.
