Team
In addition to Paul, The Power of Coproduction development team includes: Madge Kaplan, a communications strategist and former national public radio journalist. She edits Paul’s podcast copy and provides voiceover continuity; Joy McAvoy, an experienced executive and administrative coordinator. She helps arrange meetings, rehearsals and recording times; Theresa Morphew, a musician who composes and plays harp music. She has composed the musical backdrop for the podcasts; Zach Nelson, a photographer and audio artist. He manages the production of the podcast sound and quality; Andrea Resmini, an information architect. He is responsible for the conceptual planning and integration of the podcasts with the website.
The team has worked together for several months to design and create the podcasts and the best way to access them. The Power of Coproduction is available to listeners thanks to the communication technology and internet homes at the International Coproduction of Health Network (ICoHN) at the Jönköping Academy for the Improvement of Health and Welfare in Jönköping University in Sweden and The Coproduction Laboratory in The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy & Clinical Practice and The Health Assessment Laboratory in the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College in the US.
Madge Kaplan
Madge Kaplan is a writer, editor, and communications strategist with over 30 years of experience shaping stories and effective ways to discuss health care in the US and elsewhere with a wide range of audiences. From 2004 – 2020, she was Director of Communications for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), responsible for ensuring that leading examples of change in quality improvement reached key media outlets and stakeholders across the globe. While at IHI, Madge created, hosted, and produced IHI’s flagship audio show and podcast, WIHI, resulting in 225 programs on the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of QI for health care practitioners. Prior to joining IHI in 2004, Madge was an award-winning correspondent and senior editor for public radio’s nationally syndicated show, Marketplace. Based at WGBH in Boston for nearly two decades, she developed the program’s Health Desk to regularly track changes in the healthcare industry through the lens of business and financing
Joy McAvoy
Joy McAvoy helps talented, busy people work together to make things happen. For over 20 years her efforts have helped many people collaborate and shape healthcare improvement. Joy’s work has engaged her with many programs and 100’s of people in healthcare and academic organizations, both domestic and international, willing and ready to become actively involved. Recently, Joy coordinated a team to establish the International Coproduction of Health Network (ICoHN) led by Paul Batalden at Dartmouth and Boel Andersson-Gäre in Jönköping, to facilitate the virtual and in-person gatherings of people in several communities of practice to study and learn from each other. Previously, Joy served as the executive coordinator for the Dartmouth Center for Leadership and Improvement of Healthcare, Graduate Education Programs for Healthcare Improvement and the decade-long development of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Leadership Preventive Residency program
Zach Nelson
Zach Nelson is a creative who specializes in photo and video production.
As a creative, Zach uses a wide range of skill sets to solve creative problems: editorial and commercial photography, video production, audio production, graphic design, writing, and creative ideation for brands and institutions.
Zach supervises the technical equipment, the sound recordings and edits for the series. Zach lives and works in New York City.
Theresa Morphew
Theresa Morphew is a musician and composer living in Indianapolis who plays the harp, piano, and organ. She was attracted to the harp by the beauty of its sound and has played the instrument for more than three decades. When she plays the harp, she appreciates the warmth and the mystery of its sound. Physical closeness to the harp allows her to experience the harp’s vibrations associated with the music it makes. Like poets want words to speak their meaning and message, Theresa, the musician, wants to let her music speak for itself.
Paul was attracted to Theresa’s music because it seemed to welcome, and to invite attention & focus. She is quick to express her gratitude to her parents whose encouragement helped enable her musical talents to flourish. When not making music Theresa loves to work in her garden and spend time with her wonderful husband and very entertaining cats.
Andrea Resmini
Andrea is associate professor of Experience Design and Information Architecture at the Department of Intelligent Systems and Digital Design, Halmstad University, and the Director of Innovation and Research at the Center for Co–production, Jönköping Academy for Improvement in Health and Welfare at the School of Health and Welfare, Jönköping University.
An architect turned information architect, Andrea is a two–time past president of the Information Architecture Institute, a founding member of Architecta, the Italian Society for Information Architecture, and the Editor–in–chief of the Journal of Information Architecture.
He is the author of “Pervasive Information Architecture” (2011), “Reframing Information Architecture” (2014), and “Advances in Information Architecture” (2021)
