Shamnath Thajudeen successfully defended his doctoral thesis at JTH.

“My thesis provides the basis for further research and development in industrialised house building,” says Shamnath Thajudeen.

Customisation to customer needs has long been considered a competitive advantage for industrialised house building companies. However, accommodating customers' involvement in the design process often entails significant engineering activities to create customized solutions and platform-based product development is not enough to meet customers' unique requests. Shamnath Thajudeen's research suggests instead that product platforms should be developed already in the design phase.

"It streamlines the design process"

“It will helps companies design ETO-based (Engineer to order) components and moves towards a platform-based development. It streamlines the design process and allows engineers to focus on tasks that require technical knowledge and skills, says Shamnath Thajudeen.

The title of his thesis is “A Product Platform Approach to Support the Design Phase of Industrialised House Building – A Framework Conceptualisation when Using Mixed Production Strategies”. Shamnath Thajudeen believes that his proposed platform strategy can be refined and lead to new technologies and methods that support the design process in house building.

Provide greater flexibility

His research can also provide greater flexibility in design and customization, as the core components can be combined and adapted to create a variety of unique design choices.

“The end result can serve as a guide for builders interested in implementing the platform strategy to respond more effectively to changing market demands and customer preferences.”

Shamnath Thajudeen comes from Kerala in southern India and holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kerala University. In 2016, he took a master's degree in production development and management at the School of Engineering, Jönköping University. His conducting research is in the area of product platform approach in Industrialised house building.
