Students.

To give our students a clear connection between theory and practice we have created the Industrial Placement Course (IPC).

You learn a lot from your teachers in lectures and lessons, but not everything. That's why JTH has an Industrial Placement Course (IPC) that provides a clear connection between theory and practice already during the education. This means that students are better equipped for their future working life. Something that companies also benefit from.

IPC means that students have eight to fourteen weeks of internship in a workplace. The number of weeks depends on which program and specialization the student is studying. Students also have the opportunity to complete their internship period during the summer break.

Why is the IPC good for you as a company?

Advertise to our students

Do you want to offer our students internships, jobs, thesis projects, etc.? Then you can advertise to our students here.

Through IPC, you are given the opportunity to get to know a student over a longer period of time and introduce him or her to the company. The internship period can be the starting point for continued collaboration through, for example, project work and thesis work. After the student has completed his or her education, you have the chance to hire an engineer who is already well-known and who is also familiar with the business.

What can the student do?

Depending on the program and year the students are in, they have different skills and competencies. Read more about the competencies our students have before they go to IPC here. Here are some examples of possible tasks:

  • Participate and contribute knowledge to an ongoing project.
  • Conduct a study of an ongoing production process.
  • Try one or several different tasks that are relevant to the student's education.
  • Contribute to skills development at the company based on the student's previous courses and experiences.

The student and employer together develop suitable internship assignments that are linked to the education the student is undergoing. The assignments are communicated and approved together with the course manager at JTH.

What role do you have as an employer?

In order for IPC to be implemented in the best possible way, you as an employer need to:

  • Provide a physical workplace.
  • Offer relevant work tasks.
  • Provide necessary introduction and information regarding, for example, safety and working conditions.
  • Appoint a supervisor who acts as support during the internship. The supervisor should have the opportunity for regular contact with the student and JTH.

For larger assignments, it may be appropriate for you as the client to accept a group of students instead of an individual student. You decide for yourself whether you want one or more students for the assignment.

What role does the student have?

The student's role essentially involves:

  • Independently establishing contact with employers.
  • With a high level of ambition, carry out agreed internship tasks.
  • During the internship, continuously write reflective logbook entries.
  • After completing the internship, write a report and participate in a seminar that is assessed and approved by the examining teacher.

The student is personally responsible for the actual implementation of the internship, that is, arranging a client and completing the work within the given time frame. In addition to the supervisor at the company, the student also has a contact person at JTH.

Where can the IPC be conducted?

There are no geographical restrictions regarding the choice of client. The work can be carried out in another part of the country or abroad. Normally, no financial compensation is paid to the student for travel, accommodation, etc.
