Erasmus+ scholarship for studies

Erasmus+ is an EU programme with the aim to boost skills and employability as well as to modernise education, training and youth work. The programme provides opportunities for over 4 million participants in Europe to study, train and gain experience abroad.

As a student registered at Jönköping University, you have the possibility to study for 2-12 months at one of our Erasmus+ partner universities. All students that are selected and nominated as Erasmus students can apply for an Erasmus+ scholarship for studies. The scholarship is an EU funded financial support to help you cover additional costs related to your mobility abroad.

The scholarship amount is based on the length of your exchange period (number of days) and receiving country. The duration of stay on-campus needs to be min. 60 days and max. 360 days. Currently, the scholarship amount is between 460-510€ per month.


How to apply?


Application period for the Erasmus+ scholarship for studies:

Autumn semester: May - June

Spring semester: November - December

A link to the online application will be sent to your JU-email address when the application is open.

You must provide the exact semester dates in your application. You may find it at the host university website, if not please ask the host university's international coordinator. You can only apply for one semester at a time!


Participating countries

The member states of the European Union, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Turkey and Serbia can fully take part in the Erasmus+ mobility programme. Switzerland and the UK are not a part of Erasmus+.


Types of mobilites

Physical mobility = on site studies in the host country, either on campus or entirely or partially online

Virtual mobility = online studies that does not take place in the host country, but from Sweden or another country than the host country

Blended mobility = a combination between physical and virtual mobility

The Erasmus+ scholarship will be granted for the physical parts of the mobility (physical mobility) only and not for the virtual part (virtual mobility).

After the application

Students will be notified if the application has been granted via e-mail after the application deadline. Please note that the decision will be sent to your JU mail. With that mail you will recieve further information.


Mandatory documents

Grant Agreement - signed by Erasmus coordinator and student. An agreement between the student and Jönköping University. The applicant becomes the beneficiary of an EU grant and can start the mobility.

Learning Agreement - signed by student, partner university and home university. An agreement between the three parties regarding choice of courses.

Certificate of Attendance - signed by partner university at the end of your exchange. The exchange dates are the students actual time present at the partner university.


OLS language test

The Online Linguistic Support (OLS) is designed to assist you in improving your knowledge of the language in which you will study abroad so that you can make the most out of this experience.


Mandatory EU survey

After your exchange you will receive an invitation from the EU commission to an online participant report. This is a mandatory evaluation to submit. A link to the evaluation will be sent to your JU mail.

You will receive an invitation to the EU survey once you have updated your final dates of stay and your scholarship has been approved again and once we have imported it into the EU system.​ Please have in mind that this might take some time as we are processing a large number of scholarships at the same time.​

Payments

The scholarship is divided into two instalments:

1. payment: 70% of the entire scholarship at the beginning of the exchange

2. payment: 30% of the entire scholarship after the exchange.​


Process – students on exchange spring 2024

You will receive an e-mail once the application for the spring semester 2024 opens.

November 2023 Application opens for the Erasmus+ scholarship.

After the application deadline, once we have reviewed all applications you will receive an e-mail from JU's International Office if you have been granted the scholarship. Afterwards you need to do the following:

  • fill out your personal details in MOA
  • upload your signed Grant Agreement in MOA by latest 31st of January.
  • do the OLS test which will be send to your JU e-mail after you uploaded your Grant Agreement in MOA (if done, please mark it in MOA).

Create your Digital Learning Agreement

  • once you have added the courses you want to take at your partner university into the course selection module in MOA and have gotten them approved, you will be able to transfer them to your Digital Learning Agreement (DLA) in MOA.
  • add further information to your DLA and sign it
  • International Office will review it and sign it as well before it automatically gets sent to your partner university.
  • It will be visible in your MOA workflow once your Learning Agreement has been signed by all parties.

Once you have uploaded your Grant Agreement, Jönköping University will make the first payment (70% of the total amount) at the end of every month.

Please remember that the deadline is only for the Grant Agreement and not the Learning Agreement.

Good to know that it can take up to two weeks before the money has been transferred to your bank account.


During the mobility

If you made changes during the exchange (e.g. course changes) you can do this in the During the mobility - DLA part of your MOA workflow.


After the mobility, you need to do the following:

  • upload your Certificate of Attendance stating the first and last date of your physical participation in education on campus at the partner university. Not the end of semester date, re-examination date or online educational activities (exams/assignments) participated in outside the partner university's city. This document needs to be signed by your host university (not ealier than 5 days before departure). Make sure to upload the document as soon as possible but no later than 2 months after your exchange to avoid a refund of the entire scholarship.
  • update your final dates on campus in MOA
  • upload your travel receipt / ticket if applied for the "Green Travel" top-up (you can still apply for the top-up after the mobility in MOA)
  • submit the survey from the EU commission that will be sent to your JU mail (check even junk mail) after you have updated your final dates of stay and we imported it to the EU system. Please have in mind that this might take a while as we are processing a large number of scholarships at the same time.​​

Once you have uploaded and completed the above-mentioned documents, Jönköping University will then make the final payment (30% of the total amount). The money will be transferred at the end of every month.
Please note that it can take up to two weeks before the money has been transferred to your bank account.

Keep in mind that changes in the duration of your stay are affecting the amount of your scholarship and a new calculation of your grant might be needed. This can even include partial repayment of already received money.

Good to know: No second instalment will be made without a signed Learning Agreement, a signed Certificate of Attendance and a submitted EU survey. All documents need to be completed within two months after the exchange otherwise, you will be asked to refund the entire scholarship.


Process – students on exchange autumn 2023


You will receive an e-mail once the application for the autumn semester 2023 opens.

May 2023 Application opens for the Erasmus+ scholarship.

  • upload your signed Grant Agreement in MOA. Make sure to not miss the deadline announced in the e-mail.
  • do the OLS test which will be send to your JU e-mail after you uploaded your Grant Agreement in MOA (if done, please mark it in MOA).

Create your Digital Learning Agreement

  • add your approved courses from IntApps to the Digital Learning Agreement (DLA) in MOA. Please take a look at the Handbooks further up to the right under "Documents".

Once you have uploaded your Grant Agreement, Jönköping University will make the first payment (70% of the total amount) at the end of every month.

During the mobility

Go Green!

For students on exchange from spring 2022 on.

Get extra money when travelling green! Erasmus+ offers students who choose a more environmentally friendly mode of transportation (bus, train & carpooling) for the majority of their journey from Sweden to their host university a single contribution of 50€ as a top-up amount to the individual support!

What you need to do:

Apply for the Green Travel top-up in the Erasmus application. After your exchange, you will be asked to upload your travel receipt / ticket in your MOA workflow.
