Student Visa/Residence Permit

Students that are required to have a residence permit and/or visa to study in Sweden are advised to start the process as soon as possible! Please contact the Swedish embassy and/or consulate to start your application.

It can take some months to get the permit approved, so it is important that you apply as soon as possible. It is also important that you find out what type of visa or residence permit you need before starting your application.

To be eligible for a residence permit/visa, you must be admitted to full-time studies for the period that you are here. Full-time study for one semester is equivalent to 30 credits. Please contact the Swedish embassy or consulate in your home country for more information. Students are recommended to apply online. More information can be found at the Swedish Migration Agency website.

You can find specific information for exchange students here.
