In 2023, Windows 11 started to be installed on JU's computers. The upgrade have certain demands on the computer's performance, which means that not everyone can get Windows 11 right away. A mixed environment between Windows 10 and 11 will therefore exist at JU during a transition period. In the fall of 2025, Microsoft stops providing support for Windows 10, and the plan is to be ready before then.

IT will go through JU's computers to ensure compatibility with Windows 11. For those computers that do not meet the requirements, IT will come up with a replacement plan.

Tests are already being carried out in IT and among certain other staff at JU. If you are interested in participating in tests with your JU computer, you are welcome to contact the IT Helpdesk.

The news in Windows 11 is mostly about interface and design. Here are the biggest changes:

The Start button - centered on the task bar along with pinned and open programs, which means that it is no longer in the lower left corner.

Start menu - completely new look with search bar, pinned programs, recommendations and power. The easiest is to pin programs for quick access.

Taskbar - right click only shows a shortcut to Settings and the activity manager. Instead, right-click the start button for several of the functions.

Settings - completely new look, more adapted for computers and it should be more intuitive.

The explorer (file manager) - new interface with narrower but better menu bar at the top. Several common menu options, such as Rename, have become icons at the menu that appears when you right-click on a file.
