For Christine, who has always studied in international schools, JIBS felt like the natural choice. She is lifting her semester in Mexico and the kick off as the best memories, so far.
Christine Yildiz is a senior Marketing Management student at Jönköping International Business School (JIBS), Jönköping University. Opting to study at JIBS has a lot to do with the school’s strong international profile.
“I have previously always studied at international schools, so JIBS was a natural choice for me. I also knew I wanted to do a semester as an exchange student and there is a variety of options for that here.”
There is no doubt the international focus of JIBS is important to Christine, particularly when it comes to studying alongside students from different backgrounds and cultures.
“The best thing about this education is that the international focus makes the programme and courses more interesting and relevant. Both teachers and students come from a variety of backgrounds and nationalities, which has encouraged me to think in new ways, for instance when it comes to problem-solving. That gives me confidence and I believe I am better prepared for my future career than if I had studied at a traditional Swedish university.
During her years as a student, Christine has been involved in the Students’ Union and also spent a semester as an exchange student.
“I went to Monterrey, Mexico, and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. To get the opportunity to study at a huge campus with over 91,000 students is truly extraordinary. I took five different classes, all of them given in English, apart from my Spanish class. I also had the opportunity to travel and experience the Mexican culture and great food. Best of all though were all the people I met who will be my friends for life.”
After graduation, Christine is planning to move back to her hometown of Linköping, to start a career related to her studies.
“I’m looking for a job within marketing, customer experience or customer relations. I have previous experience from the security and tech sectors and hope to find a position related to that.”
Something else that Christine will always remember from her time as a student, is the student kick off at the beginning of the year.
“The kick off is amazing fun. My first few weeks at Jönköping University set the standard for the rest of the time. I really felt like I had made the right choice and immediately got to meet lots of new friends.”
For future students looking for the right education, Christine has some good advice to give:
“There is such a wide of range of education today, which makes it even more important to compare and then evaluate which is the best match for you. An academic degree does not necessarily decide the course of your career or prepare you for your professional life, so make sure you do your research properly. Whichever degree you decide on in the end, make sure to have fun during your time as a student.”
