1500 students met 135 employers at Karriärum
About 1,500 students met 135 companies and other employers at the career fair Karriärum at the School of Engineering (JTH), Jönköping University (JU) on 6 November.
"Karriärum is perfect for us because we are looking for the skills that many JTH students have," says Oskar Krantz, Service Owner at Husqvarna Group.
It was bubbling with life inside JTH this fall day in November. Many students had come to mingle and make contacts with future potential employers and partners. The companies were excited to meet students and several of them hoped to recruit for the future. Many of the stands at the fair, which is the largest of its kind at JU, were full of people and queues.
Students with a high level of competence
Oscar Krantz at Husqarna Group thinks that JTH students have a very high level of competence in many areas and that they therefore look at JTH when hiring.
"It feels great that so many students are interested and come forward and talk to us. It is good proof that we have actually managed to reach out to younger target groups," he says.
There was also a lot of activity at the Saab stand. Among other things, they had two of their employees dressed in military training equipment and allowed visitors to test fire a practice lightweight weapon at a display. Simon Forzelius and Samuel Svensson, mechanical engineer and systems engineer at Saab, have both studied at JTH.
Why do you want students from JTH?
"We are growing rapidly and need many more skills. We also want to emphasize that Saab is a good workplace with fun tasks where we want more driven people, says Simon Forzelius.
Both Simon and Samuel did their thesis work at Saab and were employed there shortly afterwards.
Two current JTH students who visited Karriärum were Julia Turesson and Edvin Johansson, who both study the first year of the master's program Supply Chain and Operation Management at JTH. They think that Karriärum provides good opportunities to meet many companies and network.
"It is always interesting to make contacts and then you can be lucky and find a summer job and/or partners," says Edvin.
Karriärum creates proximity to working life
Albin Samefors, who works with computer technology at Combitech, was another JTH alumnus who exhibited at the fair. He studied Embedded Systems and Computer Engineering at the school and liked that the students had small colored stickers on their clothes showing what they are studying.
"JTH has good programmes that provide good prior knowledge and make students well prepared for working life. It is important for us to come here to meet students and hear what is important to them," says Albin.
Many JTH students have gotten jobs at Combitech through the internship NFK and thesis work.
"It is a great opportunity to get close to working life. Otherwise, it can easily be that you get a distance to working life and that the step from being a student to starting work feels too big, says Albin.
His colleague Adina Valjakka, team leader, hopes that this year's Careerum will result in many future colleagues.
"Karriärum is a good match for us"
"Karriäum is perfect for us because we are looking for the very skills that many students here have. It is a good match for us," says Adina.
Patrik Cannmo, Associate Dean of Education at JTH, emphasizes that Karriärum is of great importance to the school's students because they have the opportunity to meet about 130 companies on the same day to discuss internships, thesis work and future employment. He also sees it as an excellent opportunity for companies to meet many students in different fields of technology.
"Companies want to recruit good students"
"The main reason companies come here is that they want to recruit good students. Offering the NFK internship and/or thesis work allows them to meet the students already during their studies and get an idea of them. Moreover, it is a very well organized and appreciated event that gets better and better every year. For me, it is one of the most fun days of the year! Seeing all the companies and students gathered at JTH during this day is proof that our efforts to be an attractive partner work, says Patrik Cannmo.
